The New Face and Future of JZJS

Hello friends. I wish I could tell you that I have a wonderful new tutorial to show you today, but unfortunately the plan was to feature a guest post. Well that plan fell through, so instead I’ve decided to give you all a sneak peak at what you can expect in the near future for this JavaScript blog. This includes two major things: a new site template and future posts.

The New Face

Keen eyes may have noticed that this blog is built on WordPress and the template used is a modified version of Twenty Eleven - the default theme for the latest versions of WordPress. This template has served me pretty well, but there are some features it lacks and some other small caveats. I’ve also searched around and I can’t find a template that suits all of my needs for a reasonable price (read “free”). So for this reason I’ve decided to create my own WordPress template utilizing my somewhat limited knowledge gained from helping a coworker make them.

If you look below you’ll see the original mockup I came up with for the template. It’s missing a few minor details that I decided to just throw in when I got to them in the actual development.

I’ve made some significant progress on the implementation, which you can see in the screenshot below. Judging by current progress and the rate that I’m working on it, I believe it’ll be ready to show by the end of the week. However, part of the reason I’m posting this is for your feedback. Please look carefully at the two provided images and tell me what you think. What would you like to see added/removed/changed. Obviously I won’t guarantee that your suggestions will make the final cut, but I will seriously consider each one. Please use the comments section at the bottom of this post to leave your feedback.

Upcoming Posts

Right now I have two things lined up, though they may not be put up right away because they both require me to take some time to do some more work before I can post about them. The first thing waiting in the wings is known by many: Step-by-Step Video Tutorial for Building an App with Backbone.js, which will require me to finish the app before I can walk you through it. The second planned series about NodeJS. I’m pretty sure that I’ll do at least part of this in video format, and after finishing the introduction to Node, I plan on introducing an MVC framework for Node (though I won’t give away which one quite yet).
